From Thursday October 17 at noon, all Ardèche parents were called to pick up the children. All educational establishments have closed their doors by decision of the Ardèche prefecture. They will remain closed this Friday, October 18.

“I am a little irritated by decisions taken without consultation, without reflection. In Privas, not a drop of water fell from daybreak to nightfall, I don’t understand. We threw 450 meals in the trash. I understand that schools are closed in certain flooded areas, in Annonay in particular, in the south or on the plateau but in Privas, nothing happened. We could have divided it into sectors, it seems to me,” reacted Michel Valla, the mayor of Privas.

The Ardèche prefecture announced that travel must be “absolutely exceptional and subject to compelling necessity” from 6 p.m. Following this, several businesses closed so as not to put customers and employees on the roads.

In the Lake area, the atmosphere resembled that of a curfew evening. The Super U was closed much earlier than usual. “I’ve had restaurateurs who didn’t know if they should close. I indicated that they could remain open. There is no obligation,” explained the mayor.
