This gesture took place a few hours after the match against the Central African Republic, played last Tuesday at the honorary stadium in the city of Oujda, as part of the fourth day of group B qualifying for the African Cup of Nations, scheduled for Morocco next year.

Ziyech, the second captain of the Atlas Lions, surprised Moroccan fans with his absence in the last two matches against the Central African Republic, raising many questions about his future with the national team. Coach Walid Regragui justified Ziyech’s exclusion due to a serious injury which kept him away from his club, Galatasaray, for five consecutive matches.

This source added that Ziyech’s absence from the matches against Central African Republic is mainly due to his injury and being away from training for some time. He could be present during the next training camp that the national team will play in November to prepare for the matches against Lesotho and Gabon in the fifth and sixth days of qualifying for the African Cup.

Hakim Ziyech remains a key player in coach Walid Regragui’s training since Morocco’s successful participation in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where they reached the semi-finals, an unprecedented feat for Arab and African football.
