What is the “Winter Arc”, this trend that is all the rage on social networks?

You don’t have a “morning routine” and still haven’t succumbed to “dry January”? Furthermore, have you had enough of anglicisms which designate more or less vague concepts? We understand you!

Yet these trends are spreading on social networks like wildfire. And some have a hard life. The latest one is called « Winter Arc ». If we had to translate it, we would talk about “good resolutions ahead of time”.

It was a 27-year-old American influencer, Carly Berges, who launched the idea. His video has had more than 4 million views on the Chinese network TikTok. According to the American media Women’s Health, the #winterarc trend occupies fifth place in the ranking of trends in the United States and already has more than 250,000 videos on the Chinese network.

Concretely, what should you do during the “Winter Arc”?

In principle, to get started on “good resolutions ahead of time”, you should start on October 1st (but it is not too late). We then have 90 days to, in a way, put your life in order.

The idea is to set personal goals to be achieved in several areas. Carly Berges explains that, for her, the first will be to get up gradually earlier: going from 7:15 a.m., when she recorded the video, to 5:30 a.m.

Other good resolutions will revolve around food, sport and culture. The idea is often to follow a diet that improves physical condition, do more sport and cultivate more.

Some have drawn up very complete lists of their objectives depending on the aspects to be worked on. This French influencer plans to improve her mind by adopting a regular sleep patternreading more and leaving your phone behind after 10 p.m. She also set physical goals, which combine sport, vitamins, rest and diet, and spiritual goals.

Can you become “the best version of yourself” in three months?

This American-style “Winter Arc” is very similar to what many of us do (without necessarily showing it off on social networks): make good resolutions at the start of September. After the holidays, the period is favorable to join a sports club and try to prolong the beneficial effect of the holidays by maintaining, in your hectic daily life, some good summer habits.

But, more often than not, these good September resolutions don’t survive the start of the school year… and the arrival of fall. Result: we postpone the opportunity to get news until January 1st.

The “Winter Arc” has the merit of setting objectives to be achieved on a specific period : 3 months. Plus, you set the course. Yours to be reasonable to determine achievable goals.

Beware of adverse effects

The other side of the coin : in the event of failure, you risk experiencing it badly and feeling guilty. Not to mention the risk of comparing yourself with Internet users who seem to achieve their goals effortlessly.

We know (but it’s always worth reminding): social networks do not always reflect a realitye. The ideal life of certain influencers can fool impressionable people.

Also pay attention to extreme advice. To succeed in your “Winter arc”, an American influencer recommends, for example, divorcing or breaking up to “be able to really work on yourself” without having “distractions”. She also advocates excessive sport and insists on drinking a minimum of three liters of water per day, whereas it is rather recommended to consume between 1.5 and 2 liters per day.

Our advice : make good resolutions before their time by taking inspiration from TikTok, why not… but we keep in mind that it is a process to become “the best version of yourself”, not the copy of a social media influencer!
