Machine learning

Tuesday October 8, Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to the American John Hopfield and the British-Canadian Geoffrey Hintonreports Europe 1. Specialists inartificial intelligencethey are rewarded for their respective work in “machine learning”, used in the development ofIA.
In its press release, the jury announced that this year’s two winners used physics tools to “develop methods that are the basis of today’s powerful machine learning systems“.

Famous specialists

Born in 1933, John Hopfieldbiologist is professor at the prestigious Princeton University. He is known for the development of the Hopfield network, an innovative model for perfecting information processing algorithms. This network acts as an associative memory system, capable of remembering and retrieving information, even from incomplete input.
As for Geoffrey Hintonborn in 1947, he is particularly famous for the development of the backpropagation algorithm. This allows neural networks to learn by adjusting the connections between artificial neurons. The magazine The Point reports that this technique has become the foundation of almost all modern machine learning models.
Last year, the Nobel Prize in Physics dedicated to Anne L’Huillier, Pierre Agostini and Ferenc Krausz.
