Here is an October 1st that some French people are impatiently awaiting, and that others, on the contrary, are dreading. Revaluations and price increases take place from this Tuesday. At the same time, the fight against the fake bank advisor scam is strengthening. At the end of the month we will also switch to standard time. Europe 1 lists all the changes taking place this month of October.

The APL revalued by 3.26% on average

Tenants who benefit from Personalized Housing Assistance (APL) each month will see this boost increased by an average of 3.26%, according to the government. This should allow them to cope with rising rents.

Small retirement pensions revalued

Retirees who receive small pensions after having had a full career will receive more in October. For the nearly 850,000 people concerned, this pension will be increased by 50.94 euros per month on average, again according to the government.

Property tax to be paid before October 15 or 20

Property owners must pay their property tax in October. They have until the 15th to initiate a transfer, pay in cash or by check (only if the amount is less than 300 euros). For those who opt for payment on the Internet, the deadline is Sunday October 20.

Increase in the benchmark price of gas

Three months after the increase in the gas bill by 11.7% on average, the French using this energy on a daily basis will once again have bad news, with a benchmark gas price which will increase by 5.36% on average, compared to September.

As a reminder, the Energy Regulatory Commission publishes its “benchmark natural gas sales price” to help residential consumers compare offers, as it has done every month since the disappearance of regulated prices in June 2023.

A section of the ring road goes to 50 km/h instead of 70

Ile-de- motorists will have to reduce the speed on part of the Paris ring road. The speed will be reduced to 50 km/h instead of 70 on a 13 km section, between the Porte des Lilas and the Porte d’Orléans. This reduced speed will then be extended to the entire Paris ring road from October 10.

Tripling of parking rates for SUVs in Paris

The tripling of the parking rate for SUVs in Paris comes into force from this Tuesday, October 1st. It will ultimately not apply to hybrid cars weighing less than two tonnes. “The trigger threshold for the ‘SUV – heavy vehicles’ tariff for plug-in hybrids will ultimately be 2 tonnes, as for electrics, and not 1.6 tonnes as initially planned”, the town hall had indicated to AFP.

Start of the flu vaccination campaign

In mainland France, the annual flu vaccination campaign will begin on Friday October 15. It is particularly intended for the elderly, pregnant women or people who suffer from certain chronic illnesses. Everyone can contact their doctor or pharmacist to get vaccinated.

Last days to apply for a college and high school scholarship

Families who want to apply for a scholarship for their child enrolled in middle or high school have until October 17 to do so, and until October 31 for students registered with Cned. On the other hand, there is no need to take any steps whatsoever for families who have consented to the automatic study of their rights: the grant is then paid automatically.

Scammers will no longer be able to pose as your banking advisor

Spoofing a telephone number to pretend to be a bank advisor will no longer be possible from October 1st. Telephone operators will put in place a mechanism to authenticate the origin of a call. The scale of this scam is estimated at 379 million euros for the year 2023.

Change to winter time

Like every year at the end of October, the French, like Europeans, will have to set their watches back by one hour. The changeover to winter time will take place during the night of Saturday October 26 to Sunday October 27. At three in the morning, it will therefore be 2 o’clock. Time changes were to be removed in the member countries of the European Union, but this removal has been postponed several times and is not yet ready to be discussed as reported in this article.
