“The embarrassment”: Léon Marchand uncomfortable during a column by Maïa Mazaurette in Quotidien, internet users outraged

Two months ago, Léon Marchand was on the roof of he who had a string of incredible performances at the Olympic Games. An epic during which the 22-year-old swimmer particularly shone, winning no less than four individual gold medals. Since then, Léon Marchand has multiplied interviews, during which he is often questioned about his relationship to his new notoriety. “My status has changed, I believe Camille Lacourt said it but once you win, you become beautiful. It’s a sentence that really speaks to me because now, everyone comes to talk to me whereas two or three years ago, when I was in the tough, it wasn’t the same“, he recently confided to Mouloud Achour, on Clique.

This Monday, September 30, 2024, the ace of pools gave a long interview to Dailyduring which he returned to the Olympics and his brand new life. Léon Marchand was treated to various columns, notably one by Ambre Chalumeau who dissected his musical tastes. But it was the sequence of Maïa Mazaurette which particularly shocked Internet users, embarrassed by the comments of the columnist specializing in questions on sexuality.

Léon Marchand embarrassed by Maïa Mazaurette’s column in Quotidien

Maïa Mazaurette has in fact unfolded her column focusing on the bodies of swimmers, which she judges “ultra visible, ultra exposed and therefore ultra scrutinized“. “We are faced with a perfect body, drawn, like in a comic book. Plus, with no hair, you can see absolutely every detail.“, she said. “It takes us back to the origins of athletics, when athletes competed naked. The public had to be able to see the athlete’s body, because it was the ideal body. Since then, to my great despair, we have invented the more or less tight-fitting tracksuit“, she added, while images of shirtless swimmers flashed.

The swimmer’s body is not only about sporting performance, it is also something much sexier: reproductive performance“, continued the columnist. A remark which challenged Pablo Mira, who launched, in a tone of humor: “Come on, let’s leave her alone“. “That’s it, it’s time“, replied Léon Marchand. Maïa Mazaurette then mentioned the “perfect sire, recognizable thanks to a V or T morphology, broad shoulders, narrow hips […] which makes the swimmer’s body a sporting ideal and an ideal for making love, especially since the undulations of the pelvis are still somewhat reminiscent of the sexual act“. Comments which greatly shocked Internet users, who did not hesitate to highlight the apparent discomfort of Léon Marchand.
