Basketball-Tribute from journalist Paul Biagui to Dikembe Mutombo: farewell to a giant of sport

XALIMANEWS-In a message published by Kirinapost, Paul Biagui, columnist and sports analyst, pays tribute to his friend, Dikembe Mutumbo, who died this Monday at the age of 58.

» NBA legend Dikembe Mutumbo, African philanthropist and worthy son of Congo, has died. A large baobab fell today. I lost a brother.

When the heart is so heavy and you cannot find the words to express yourself, you turn to God and continue to pray. Right now, I’m just thinking about Rose, his wife, their children, and the immediate family I’ve gotten to know over the years. A large baobab fell today.

You were more than a good man Dike. You were an angel in so many ways. Kind, caring, full of life, full of hope… for others. Especially for the less fortunate. People will remember you as the NBA Hall Of Famer that you were. But I will always remember the humble and caring man behind all this success: the country’s greatest philanthropist.

After your brilliant career and your 18 NBA seasons, 1,200 games, several titles as best rebounder and best blocker, you embarked on a crusade to improve things for those who need it. You never stopped. It was your calling. I was there. I was there to witness and capture everything with my camera.

You have done more than what the Lord instilled in you and gave you. You were more than a business partner. You were more than a friend. We became brothers. You called me little brother and I reminded you that we were barely two months apart. We always resolved this with your radiant and contagious smile.

Even though it really hurts right now to write this, I just want to remember and cherish your noble contribution to humanity. I want to remember the devoted family man but also as a giant with a big heart: the biggest I know.

With your selfless support and countless services to the community, your people and the needy, you have set the bar where it should be: At the highest level. May the Lord Almighty through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ welcome you as the good servant you have tried to be in this life. Rest in peace my brother and may the earth be light to you. » We can read in this vibrant tribute from the trained journalist based in Atlanta (Usa)
