In an interview with GQ, Novak Djokovic reveals he was poisoned in 2022, when he was detained in a Melbourne hotel, before being sent home because his visa was canceled.
Earlier this week, Novak Djokovic revealed that he still felt “trauma” when arriving in Australia, because it reminded him of bad memories of 2022. That year, after announcing that he was benefiting from a medical exemption allowing him to come to Australia without being vaccinated against covid, the Serb had landed in Melbourne, but his visa had been canceled and he had been detained in a hotel intended for people in an irregular situation. He was asked to leave the territory eleven days later. The Serbian at the 24 Grand Slam tournaments is visibly in a period of confession, because in a long portrait dedicated to him GQ in this month of January, he makes another revelationwhich must undoubtedly exacerbate his feeling of “trauma” upon arriving in Melbourne: he believes he was poisoned when he was detained in this famous Melbourne hotel!
Djokovic: “A very high level of heavy metals was detected in me”
“I made some discoveries on my return to Serbia,” says Novak Djokovic. “I never made it known publicly but a very high dosage of heavy metals was detected in me. I had very high levels of lead and mercury.” “It could be due to the food, according to you?” the journalist asks him. “That’s the only possibility, replies the Serb, before continuing: I was very ill. It was like a simple flu but I was very weak, even in the days that followed. I then had to do toxicology tests.” GQ specifies that a spokesperson for the Australian Department of the Interior, contacted on this subject, replied: “For reasons of confidentiality, the department cannot comment on individual cases.” The mystery therefore remains complete. Despite everything he experienced in Australia in 2022, Novak Djokovic does not hold grudges. He returned in 2023 and won the Australian Open, then lost in the semi-finals last year, but intends to do better this year, with his new coach Andy Murray.
