ATP > Zverev, on the most difficult moment of his career: “I was one match away from world number one and I was probably playing the best of my life against the greatest clay court player of all time, Rafael Nadal”

Recently asked about the most difficult moment of his career in a recent interview published by his sponsor, Head, Alexander Zverev could not help but mention his terrible injury against Rafael Nadal in the middle of the semi-final of the 2022 edition of Roland‐Garros.

“In my opinion, 2022 at Roland Garros was the most difficult moment of my career. I was one match away from world number one and playing probably the best of my life against the greatest clay court player of all time, Rafael Nadal. It was a difficult moment for me because, you know, even if I lost the match – I mean, it's Nadal, anything can happen. We can lose against him at Roland Garros, everyone has already lost against him. But knowing deep down that I had to win a match in three months to become world number one was difficult for me. And obviously being in a cast and not being able to not only play, but just walk and do everyday things, it was difficult. »
