ATP > Steve Johnson, beaten by Sinner in 2019, remembers: “After my defeat, I spoke to my agent and a few other coaches and they were telling me, give him time, this kid is going to be unreal… I told me, you are so stupid, this guy will never get anywhere”

The first time that Steve Johnson, now retired from the circuit, met Jannik Sinner remains a memorable moment for him as he explained during the show bringing together Querrey, Isner, and Sock. Defeated in three sets in 2019 in Rome during his first round by a player who was too thin, Steve really did not think at that time that Jannik was going to become a tenor on the circuit.

« After that awful loss, I started talking to my agent and a few other coaches and they were like, give him time, this kid is going to be unreal… I was like, you guys are so stupid, this guy is never going to make it. never anywhere, this guy is going to have one victory and it will be me, that will never change. I didn't know that in four years he would be earning a hundred million dollars a year, winning Grand Slams and being by far the best player in the world.”
