Italy wins the decisive doubles and will face Australia in the semi-final

The pair composed of Jannik Sinner and Mattéo Berettini send Italy to the semi-final after the victory in the decisive doubles against the Argentine pair.

The good season continues for Jannik Sinner and Italy! The world number 1 participated in the two Italian victories (singles and doubles) to help the Transalpines reach the semi-finals of the Davis Cup against the Argentine pair (6-4, 7-5). Argentina had nevertheless scored the first point of the confrontation thanks to the victory of Francisco Cerundolo against Lorenzo Musetti (6-4, 6-1).

Associated with Matteo Berrettini (35th), the boss of the men's circuit beat the Argentines Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni 6-4, 7-5 to bring his country, winner of the competition in 2023, the second point synonymous with the last four. During one of the liveliest matches in the stands since the start of the competition, Italy was content with a break at the end of the set in each of the two sets to win in less than an hour and half.

Sinner, the main attraction of the tournament since the Netherlands pushed Rafael Nadal into retirement on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, then easily beat Sebastian Baez (27th) 6-2, 6-1 in less than an hour and quarter to tie the two teams. At 23, the world No.1 has won ten of his eleven singles in the Davis Cup and three of his six doubles since he began representing Italy in 2021. The Italian team will meet the Australians in the last four, winner of the United States also after the decisive game. Lleyton Hewitt's players eliminated the United States, who came in force in Malaga with world No.4 Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul (12th) and Ben Shelton (21st), thanks to a marathon victory by Thanasi Kokkinakis in singles and a success of the pair Matthew Ebden/Jordan Thompson in the decisive doubles.
