“You have no cardio”, the big disagreement between Tsitsipas and a referee

Opposed to Daniil Medvedev this Wednesday in the round of 16 of the Masters 1000 in Shanghai, Stefanos Tsitsipas, unhappy at having been sanctioned for exceeding the time limit, attacked the referee at length.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is out of his depth. During his defeat against Daniil Medvedev, this Wednesday in the round of 16 of the Masters 1000 in Shanghai (7-6, 6-2), the Greek attacked the chair umpire at length. Tsitsipas could not digest being penalized with a double fault for exceeding the time between two services. And he made it known.

“We have to talk,” says the 12th player in the world to the referee, while the two players are at 2-2 in the second set. “Can we have a conversation about the weather? The problem is the double fault you gave me. Have you ever played tennis? It seems like you have no idea about tennis.”

“We don’t throw darts here.”

“Yes, I played. I’m not as good as you, but I played,” the referee replied. “You don’t have any cardio,” Tsitsipas retorts, quite annoyed. “You’re probably serving and volleying. We need time. We’re not throwing darts here.”

While Medvedev waits patiently to resume the game, alone on his side of the field, Tsitsipas does not give up. He sits in his chair, refuses to resume the match and calls for the supervisor, while a few boos come down from the stands.

The Greek finally decided to return to the match, losing four of the next five games and letting Medvedev slip into the quarter-finals. The Russian will meet Jannik Sinner there.
