WTA 1000 Pekin – Coco Gauff surclasse Karolina Muchova in finale

The poster promised but it failed. Coco Gauff swept aside Karolina Muchova (6-1 6-3) on Sunday in the final in Beijing. For their reunion in China, after their hotly contested semi-final (6-4 7-5) at Flushing Meadows, a little over a year ago, Gauff quickly led 3-0 after a confirmed break.

From that moment, she developed exceptional tennis with variations of shots so some found areas out of reach of her opponent before concluding the first round in just half an hour. Much less tense and more conquering, the 28-year-old Czech seemed to return to the game by being more aggressive at the net and diligent in the recovery.

This renewed anger bothered Gauff, who found herself trailing 2-0, but the young American (20 years old) broke immediately and came back to the level with a shutout before stringing together four games in a row (4 -2). The two players then engaged in a showdown, this time with games that took a long time to conclude, but the Atlanta native had the last word.

After a difficult year, Muchova returned to the Chinese capital, where she claimed the scalps of two players in the top 10 – victory over world No.2 Aryna Sabalenka in the quarter and after having shattered the dream of local idol Zheng Qinwen in the semi-finals, will enter the top 30 in the next WTA rankings. With her success, Gauff now has eight individual titles on the women’s circuit.
