ATP > Very bad news for Sinner, the World Anti-Doping Agency is appealing and asking for a suspension of one to two years!

Cleared by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) after testing positive twice for a banned substance in March 2024, Jannik Sinner is not out of the woods yet.

While the Corriere della Serra announced on September 10 that the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) had decided not to appeal the decision rendered by an independent tribunal, WADA finally appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

“WADA considers that the conclusion that there was no fault or negligence was not correct under the applicable rules. WADA is requesting a suspension period of one to two years. WADA does not seek annulment of results, except that which has already been imposed by the court of first instance”explained WADA in a press release.

As a reminder, Sinner explained that his physiotherapist had given him the banned substance (clostebol) via a spray that he had used to treat himself.

While awaiting the CAS decision, the world number 1 is currently participating in the ATP 500 in Beijing where he faces Roman Safiullin in the round of 16.
