Bernard Tomic, former 17th in the world in the ATP rankings, was suspected of match-fixing during the 2022 season, as revealed by the Sydney Morning Herald.
The Australian, whose career has already seen numerous escapades, was questioned by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) in 2022, concerning two suspicious defeats.
The first being during the first round of qualifying for the Australian Open, where he lost in two sets against Roman Safiullin (6-1, 6-4) and played while having Covid.
The second, during a match at the Istanbul Challenger which pitted him against Quentin Halys, where he lost sharply with a score of 6-0, 6-1.
Following these two matches, which generated suspicious bets and winnings between $10,000 and $180,000, the ITIA questioned Tomic and investigated his phone.
-Despite an interrogation where Tomic allegedly appeared “arrogant and confident”, the investigation against him was stopped due to a lack of evidence.
The 29-year-old was allowed to continue his career, while one of the bookmakers did not pay out the winnings acquired from these matches.
Tomic, who fell to 212th in the world, played the first round of qualifying in Melbourne this year, where he lost to Jozef Kovalik.
