The grandpas of the La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin and Jargeau clubs did better than resist, Tuesday January 21, in the round of 16 of the French interclub championship for over 75s.
In Tarbes, the players of TC Chapellois won two games to one. “It went very well and we were well received,” said Xavier Parey, captain of the team and president of the club, proud of his friends.
Jacques Brun (74) started the debates by winning the first match of the day (7-6, 6-4). Xavier Parey (75) dropped the second (1-6, 0-6) but the pair formed by Lionel Metout (74) and Dominique Terrier (75) won the double (6-3, 6-4) . “Despite powdery terrain that was unfamiliar to us,” remarked Xavier Parey.

For his part, Jargeau beat the Alsatians of Lampertheim. Jean-Paul Chambarel (77 years old) won the first duel (6-3, 2-6, 10-6), then Guy Caramagnol (78 years old) secured qualification (6-2, 6-2). In the doubles, Paul Sarrauste de Menthière (80 years old) and Jean-Jacques Bouchon (77 years old) won in two sets (6-3, 6-4). The quarter-finals will take place on Tuesday February 4, in Coutainville (Manche) for Jargeau and in Clermont-Ferrand for La Chapelle.
