In the Jura massif, Lake Genin attracts experienced and amateur skaters. Also called Little Canada, it has 13 centimeters of ice.
-Lake Genin (Ain), frozen during the winter, is also called Little Canada. It will melt skating lovers in a magical setting. “It’s still crazy, we went ice skating on a frozen lake, in the middle of nature”explains Gaëlle Hourriez-Bolatre, amateur skater. At an altitude of 850 meters, skaters benefit from 13 centimeters of ice on which to launch. To enjoy the view, some treat themselves to a gourmet break facing the mountain.
In the lake owners' inn, orders for pancakes follow one another. “There are a lot of people, it’s been two years since anyone skated”explains Pascale Gaudet, owner of Lake Genin. You also need patience when renting your skates. The price is 7 euros for adults and 5 euros for children. Some play ice hockey, others let themselves slide. Experienced skaters rub shoulders with those who prefer to be guided.
