Swiss Viktorija Golubic put her name on the list of winners at the 10th Limoges BLS Open by winning in the final against her compatriot Céline Naef. It took two sets (7-5, 6-4) and 1 hour 45 hours of play for Golubic to win the title.
Viktorija Golubic succeeds the Spaniard of Moldovan origin Cristina Bucsa who had dominated the French Elsa Jacquemot in the final last year.
With her magnificent one-handed backhand, Viktorija Golubic first put her paw on the first set 7-5. True to herself, Céline Naef ran a lot and returned her opponent's blows. But Golubic, 32, brought his experience to bear and won the first round.
In this tense standoff, the Zurich native continued her momentum during the second set. With her big accelerations, she regularly overtook Céline Naef (19 years old) who was getting too annoyed and whose dry strikes were not always precise.
Result, on a final return into the net from Naef, Viktorija Golubic won 6-4 and took the title.
“We are friends with Céline and it was not an easy match,” said the winner. But I'm really happy to have won. This week has been a great experience.”
