The ATP revealed this Monday the players nominated for the ATP Awards, which reward season performances in four different categories.
The first is that of the “comeback” of the year, with three players designated by the ATP: Matteo Berrettini, Marin Cilic and Kei Nishikori. The three players, former members of the Top 10, distinguished themselves by their return to the forefront after a long absence following injuries.
Next comes the category of best progression of the year where Jack Draper, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Thomas Machac and Alejandro Tabilo are nominated.
Mpetshi Perricard could be one of the favorites for this award after finishing the season in the Top 50 even though he started it above 200th place in the world.
The third category concerns that of newcomers to the circuit. Jakub Mensik, 48th in the world, and Juncheng Shang, 50th in the world are the two players nominated.
Finally, as every year, the ATP will award the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Prize. Dominic Thiem, Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud (winner in 2022) and Grigor Dimitrov are the players nominated in this category.
Regarding the coaches, five names are in the running to win the title of coach of the year: Xavier Malisse (Alexei Popyrin), Emmanuel Planque (Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard), Michael Russell (Taylor Fritz), Brad Stine (Tommy Paul) and James Trotman (Jack Draper).
Fans can also vote for their favorite player of the season (and their favorite doubles pair) on the ATP website. Prizes will be awarded during the week of December 9.
