Caroline Garcia, who ended her season last September, regained the rank of French number 1 this Monday. The Lyonnaise takes advantage of the four places lost by Diane Parry (54th) to once again get ahead (50th) of her young compatriot in the WTA rankings.
Caroline Garcia (31) should once again end the year as French number 1. Dislodged last month by Diane Parry (22 years old) last month, the Lyonnaise is once again the highest ranked of our representatives at the WTA. Paradoxically, Garcia, author of a catastrophic season, has already turned the page on 2024.
At the end of last September, the ex-protege of Bertrand Perret, apparently in a hurry to move on to the next financial year, had given an appointment to 2025. This does not prevent her from carrying out some more good operations on the accounting level. This is the case this Monday with an update of the ranking which shows the former world number 8 higher in the hierarchy than Parry. The latter falls to 54th place while Garcia, who progresses a notch without playing, appears again in 50th position. Parry must have expected this.
The Top 10 remains unchanged
Finalist in the Chilean tournament in Colina a year earlier at the same period, the young Boulonnaise played this weekend in the Billie Jean King Cup play-off against Colombia with Les Bleues an hour from Bogota. The former 48th in the ranking (his best ranking so far) could therefore not compensate for the loss of his points gleaned in Chile last November, and could not avoid a slight fall in the hierarchy. She fell four places and is therefore no longer French number 1, a status which once again falls to Garcia.
No change regarding Varvara Gracheva and Clara Burel, also unhappy with the French team this weekend in Colombia. The first remains 66th, the second retains its 74th place. The Top 10, still dominated by Aryna Sabalenka, has not undergone any changes either.
