Floods, damage, too many visitors… To cope with the dilapidation of the Louvre, Rachida Dati believes that “we must be innovative, including for financing“. “I wanted a differentiated pricing policy which will be implemented from January 1, 2026 and which will make it possible to finance this new museum project.“, announced this Thursday the Minister of Culture on France Inter.
-“The Louvre is like Notre-Dame, it’s our heritage“, declares Rachida Dati. “Visiting and working conditions are not up to par with this largest museum in the world“, she laments, however.
Temperature problems for the conservation of works, infiltrations, glass pyramid “structurally outdated“faced with the influx of visitors… The minister received a letter in mid-January from Laurence des Cars, the president and director of the museum in Paris, who talks about her “duty to alert“. The director is thus sounding the alarm on the state of the largest museum in the world, hoping to obtain adequate financial support.
Laurence des Cars cites in particular a “multiplication of damages in sometimes very degraded areas” et “l’obsolescence” of the “technical equipment“. The Louvre welcomed nine million visitors in 2024, twice its capacity.
