Instagram launches Edits, a rival to video editing app CapCut

The American company Meta, led by Mark Zuckerberg, is seeking to strengthen its position in the market for short video sharing and editing platforms. After modifying its famous square grid to adopt vertical rectangles on profiles, following the aesthetic of TikTok, Instagram announced the launch of the Edits application. This aims to compete with CapCut, the popular video editing app belonging, like TikTok, to the Chinese group ByteDance.

“Edits is not just a video editing app, it’s an integral platform for creators,” Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, said on his account. Offering advanced capture features with “a much better quality camera”, AI-enriched editing tools (such as green screen effects), it also has the advantage of not affixing a watermark on the images. videos. These can also be exported to all social networks, Instagram promises. In addition to automatic caption generation, Edits includes a catalog of sound and visual effects, as well as analytics tools to track the performance of videos after they are published on Instagram.

Edits is scheduled to launch in March. The app will first be available on iPhone, before rolling out to Android devices.
