WhatsApp is launching a new feature that allows users to add music to their status updates.

Here’s what we know

This feature, first spotted during the development of beta version 2.24.22.11, is now being tested with a wider audience thanks to the new beta version 2.25.2.5 of WhatsApp for Android, available as part of the beta program from Google Play.

According to a report from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is adding a new feature to statuses: it is now possible to add music. Using the “Music” button in the status editor, you can choose a song from the vast Meta library (like on Instagram). Search for your favorite hits, trending songs or artists and add them to your photos or videos.

Beta testers claim that it is easy and quick to add music to WhatsApp statuses. Simply choose a song, select a 15-second clip for a photo, or set the duration for a video. People who view your status will see the name of the song and artist, and will also be able to access the artist’s Instagram profile directly through WhatsApp.

The option is currently only available to selected beta testers, but WhatsApp plans to bring it to more users soon. To try it, simply update WhatsApp to the latest beta version.

Instagram announced a new video editor called Edits that will be available in March 2025. It will offer advanced tools such as AI effects, green screens and watermark-free exports, and will integrate seamlessly with Instagram for analytics of the real world.
