From Friday January 24 to Sunday January 26, 2025, at the Hôtel du Département du Var, the first edition of the Var Gaming festival will allow middle school students and the general public to discover training and careers in the video game industry.
Make video games a career. Here is what the Var Department is offering by organizing on January 24, 25 and 26 at the Lices building in Toulon, the first Var Gaming festival, a forum for training and careers in the field of video games.
These days will also be an opportunity to host, for the second year in a row, the Global Game Jam, an international competition in which teams of students compete to create a video game in 48 hours non-stop.
At the same time, the atrium of the Departmental Council will host several stands from higher education establishments to present their training and digital professions:

Also, a stand will be dedicated to the presentation of the Global Game Jam 2024 teams and their creation.
Friday January 24, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., will be a day dedicated to 8 classes of Var schoolchildren so that they can discover, from now on, the possibilities of professional orientation, studies and professions in the industry video game. 4 classes will be hosted in the morning and four others in the afternoon. A fun interactive course accompanied by a support booklet will allow middle school students to immerse themselves in the different stages of creation and production of a digital product.
It is also at the end of the day that the Global Game Jam will be launched with the unveiling of the theme for the 2025 competition.
-On Saturday, January 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the doors will be wide open to the public. On the program, two round tables: “professions and figures in the video game industry“at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.”the video game ecosystem“. Exchanges with higher education establishments and the presentation of specialized training in the region will then be prioritized.
Finally, on Sunday January 26, in the afternoon, the teams participating in the Global Game jam 2025 competition will present their creation and the winner will be chosen by a jury of professionals.
La Global Game Jam Var 2025
In parallel with the forum for careers in the video game industry, the garden level of the Hôtel Départemental du Var will be transformed, like last year, into a real “Game Center” competition. 70 to 100 participants are expected, divided into 17 teams to participate in the Var edition of the Global Game Jam 2025. On an imposed theme and revealed during the launch of the timer on Friday January 26 at 6 p.m., the competitors , grouped into teams made up of different professions (programmer, screenwriter, graphic designer, game designer or even musician/sound designer) will compete to create a video game in 48 hours non-stop.

- 2:30 p.m.: Presentation of the creations by the teams to the jury and the public
- 4 p.m. – 5 p.m.: Designation of the winner and discussions with the public (demonstration) followed by a cocktail.
