He remained on two second places, at Alta Badia and Madonna di Campiglio, and he presented himself in the starting gate of Adelboden with the red bib of leader of the Slalom World Cup. But under the snowflakes which fell on the Oberland resort, the Valaisan Loïc Meillard (28 years old) did not succeed in following his dream.
Meillard in fact mounted at the entrance to the final wall, while he seemed able to worry the Austrian Manuel Feller, who had just set the best time. Impressively consistent in slalom since the start of the season, the native of Neuchâtel therefore failed at the worst of times, in front of the fantastic Bernese public. The same mishap happened to the Norwegian Atle Lie McGrath, who set out to set the best time.
“It’s always a shame to be eliminated, but it hurts even more here in Adelboden,” Meillard commented in front of the RTS camera. This season, everything has worked well so far, but unfortunately a little less today.”
-After this first round, Feller therefore occupies the head of the ranking, with a lead of 25 hundredths over the German Linus Strasser and 38 hundredths over the Frenchman Clément Noël.
The Swiss record is hardly rosy. Meillard eliminated, Daniel Yule, tenth at 1”38, is the best of them. Further back we find the Genevan Tanguy Nef (20th at 2”28), the Fribourgeois Luca Aerni (22nd at 2”39) and the Vaudois Marc Rochat (23rd at 2”44), while the Haut-Valaisan Ramon Zenhäusern was, like Meillard, eliminated. 37th at 3”65, Bernese Noel von Grünigen will not see the second round, which will start at 1:30 p.m.
