On the menu: water resistance returns, joined by an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and a massive battery.
The latest generations of OnePlus flagships were missing one thing that’s obligatory for the best smartphones: water resistance. The company is finally getting things straightened out for the OnePlus 13. Good news: the OnePlus 13 is now available in Europe, alongside the OnePlus 13R. The 256 GB version of the OnePlus 13 is available for €1,029. A 512 GB version is also available for €1,179. The OnePlus 13R is available for pre-order for €769 for the 256 GB version. Deliveries will begin on January 14.
We’re very happy to see the OnePlus get an IP69 rating for dust and water protection. The outgoing OnePlus 12 was only IP65 rated, which isn’t enough to protect against total submersion. These extra joints sit under a new outer shell, with flat sides and a flat 6.82-inch OLED display instead of the slightly curved panels seen in recent iterations. The off-center camera bump on the back has been simplified, but classics like the alert slider are still present.
A 1440p resolution, 1-120Hz LTPO adaptive refresh rate, and 4,500 nits peak brightness mark the display as flagship-worthy, and there’s a fingerprint sensor for the first time Ultrasonic digital sensors under the glass. OnePlus also added what it says is the most powerful vibration motor ever on an Android phone.
There have been some changes photography-wise compared to last year. The OnePlus 13 now has three 50 MP rear sensors: the same LYT-808 main camera from the OnePlus 12, an f/2.6 telephoto lens with optical image stabilization and 3x optical zoom, and an ultra-wide that can also take macro shots. Hasselblad processing is onboard, as well as the new Live Photo mode seen on sister brand Oppo’s Find X8 Pro.
Naturally, it has all the hardware benefits you’d expect from a new high-end Android phone. There’s a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset packing more power than most phone owners know what to do with; a simply giant 6000 mAh battery that will have no trouble lasting all day – maybe even two – between recharges; Super-fast 100W wired and 50W wireless charging; and up to 24 GB of RAM and 1 TB of onboard storage.
The Chinese version arrives with Color OS 15, but the global variants land with OxygenOS 15 instead. It’s Android 15 below in both cases, and owners should expect at least four new generations of Android and five years of security updates. Although OnePlus hasn’t confirmed this to be the case, this is what was offered for the now-obsolete OnePlus 12.
