Google Drive improves the scanner of its Android application

Google Drive improves its document scanning tool in its mobile application. The scanned images benefit in particular from automatic correction of defects for a much better quality result.

If you are used to dematerializing your documents, you are probably familiar with Google Drive, the digital giant’s storage tool. Indeed, it has a very practical document scanning tool. Google is also gradually improving it in the mobile application. So, a year ago, it offered a new interface, several functions allowing more control over the generated image, in particular by automatically scanning the document, as well as better rendering (see our article).

But, compared to certain competing applications, the scanned documents could sometimes be difficult to read, due to brightness issues or too low contrast. Fortunately, Google announced in a blog post an update that will make the Google Drive scanner more efficient on Android, by correcting this major problem. “Mobile scans are now sharper and clearer with automatic Google Drive scanner improvements”explains the Internet giant. The scanned images will therefore be much more usable.

Google Drive: a better quality scanner for a readable result

Google Drive has thus optimized the post-capture processing algorithms. “According to the document, auto-enhance will perform actions such as white balance correction, shadow removal, contrast enhancement, auto sharpening, brightness enhancement, and more,” explains the Mountain View firm. The result should no longer look like a photo, but rather like a real scan.

The rollout of this update has already begun for users who are enrolled in the Rapid Release Program and will end on January 2, 2025. For other Google Workspace users, including free accounts, for others, the start The deployment is scheduled for January 6, 2025. Please note, this update concerns the Android application only, the iOS application is not affected at the moment.
