The Photonera is a portable solar generator which, despite its relatively compact dimensions, allows laptops to be recharged. When folded, the system isn’t much bigger than a smartphone.

The Photonera, a new energy bank with integrated solar cell, is currently being financed on Kickstarter. This type of device is not uncommon, but this system has a special feature: it is claimed to be able to deliver up to 65 watts via USB PD, which is a relatively high charging capacity. This means that compatible laptops can be charged, not just smartphones. In theory, it is therefore possible to work with a laptop for long periods of time in the absence of any other charging solution and solely using the power of the sun via the Photonera, provided that the sunlight is strong and abundant . Since the power bank’s capacity is only 10,000 mAh, it is unlikely that laptops with a large battery can be fully recharged. A screen is available.

The system is equipped with 10 individual solar panels, which can then be unfolded. When folded, the device measures 96 x 146 x 40 millimeters; when unfolded it measures 278 x 480 x 22 millimeters. The power of the solar cells is 25 watts, the maximum power that can only be reached in direct sunlight. The weight is 560 grams. The power bank can also be recharged with a maximum power of 65 watts via the USB-C port. Besides the USB-C port, the model also has a USB-A port, which can provide 24 watts of power.

The Photonera can currently be ordered via Kickstarter at a starting price of around $79. Potential supporters should be aware of the financial risks of crowdfunding campaigns.
