Migros wants to open new stores in the regions around Lake Geneva and around Zurich, Migros boss Mario Irminger said in Sonntagsblick on Sunday. The orange giant had announced that it was counting on the establishment of 140 additional brands by 2030.
There is demand for additional stores in areas that have experienced strong population growth in recent years, explained the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federation of Migros Cooperatives in an interview. This is the case of the Lake Geneva region.
Beyond Sarine, the regions bordering Lake Zurich and those located on the Baden-Wetzikon axis to the north of the city are also affected. Migros could also open new stores in the canton of Zug.
By 2030, the boss of the orange giant wants to increase by 200,000 the number of households for whom Migros is the closest food store. A team of specialists is in the process of identifying suitable locations to set up these new businesses, continued Mr. Irminger in the pages of the newspaper.
In the process of refocusing solely on its supermarket activities, the distribution juggernaut announced at the end of October the injection of 2 billion francs over five years into the extension and renovation of its network. The measure aimed to open 140 new stores and renovate 350 others.
