With its next game mode, Fortnite is preparing to directly compete with Call of Duty, but also Counter Strike and Valorant. A way for Epic Games' platform game to offer ever more varied experiences to satisfy its audience in the long term.
If Fortnite has always stood out from Call of Duty with its third-person view, that's now over with the arrival of Ballistic mode! With this new experience, the flagship title of Epic Games works on the grounds of Call of Duty, but also of Valorant and Counter Strike, the parts of which follow the similar principle. And to find out, it will be from December 11, in early access however.

When Fortnite plays Call of Duty
In Ballistic mode, Fortnite offers 5v5 matches in competitive games and especially in first person. In addition to bringing a new dimension to the shooting game, we find a tactical side since the two teams are divided between two camps, between the attackers and the defenders. For the first, the goal will be to plant a “Rift Point Device”, a sort of explosive that can be placed at two different points on the map. Without too much surprise, the goal of the opposing camp will be to prevent this from happening and above all to ensure that it does not explode. The games last six rounds and points are won in the event of a bomb explosion or if one of the teams is eliminated.
To defend yourself, players can purchase at the start of each round with credits earned by eliminating opponents or planting the bomb. Everyone can hold two weapons, a primary and another secondary, which can be kept from one round to the next in case of survival. Gadgets can also be chosen to make the round easier. Finally, all cosmetic aspects of Fortnite can be used in this mode, even in first person.
Fortnite, more than a Battle Royale
With this Ballistic mode, Fortnite continues to diversify to attract even more audiences. Almost exactly a year ago, we remember the release of LEGO Fortnite, Fortnite Festival and Rocket Racing which brought new experiences to Epic Games' flagship game. More than ever, Fortnite has become a platform to accommodate any type of video game experience rather than a simple Battle Royale. This is notably due to its engine, the Unreal Engine, manufactured by its publisher and developer, which allows it to adapt to all possible people. It remains to be seen whether this first-person competitive mode will overshadow the big names of the genre.
