According to a Korean economic newspaper, Samsung has decided to scale back its augmented reality glasses by producing only 50,000 copies.
Next year, Samsung could lift the veil on its first connected glasses. It must be said that the Korean manufacturer announced that it was working on this new type of product almost two years ago, announcing that it was developing a “ new XR experience », of extended reality.
However, the latest rumors not only evoke a project which would have been largely reduced in terms of technological ambitions, but also concerning the sales potential.
Ambitions revised downwards for Samsung
Indeed, according to information from the Korean economic newspaper SE DailySamsung has reportedly decided to considerably scale back its sales targets. While the initial objectives seemed to be counting on 500,000 units sold when the glasses were released, Samsung would now be banking on 50,000 sales for its first XR glasses:
The XR device is expected to be an augmented reality glasses concept. Samsung has planned a plan to deliver more than 20,000 to 30,000 units in the third and fourth half of next year.
As the site indicates Android PoliceSamsung has thus decided to reduce the number of glasses produced at release by 90%.
The SE Daily article, however, tells us more about the type of product expected from Samsung. These should in fact be augmented reality glasses, similar to what Meta has already revealed with its Orion glasses prototype.
In recent weeks, another Korean media outlet, Maeil Business Newspaperindicated that Samsung was working on glasses capable of recording videos, but without a screen. In this way, they would be similar to the Ray-Ban Meta.
We could learn more about Samsung’s glasses early next year. Indeed, according to SE Daily, Samsung could show its glasses for the first time during the Galaxy Unpacked conference presenting the Galaxy S25. The glasses would then be released in the second half of the year, just as was the case in 2024 for its Galaxy Ring connected ring.
