The SilMach company, based in Besançon, has developed a new type of motor for watches by coupling microelectronics and micromechanics.
-
This technology opens up a new field of expression, with the possibility of revisiting all the functions of the watch. And add others, simply by programming a chip.

Enough to provoke a new revolution. In the world of quartz watches, in that of smartwatches. And even luxury watches.
The analog electronic watch will perhaps experience its second revolution. History will confirm whether it is an earthquake or a temporary tremor. Still, the epicenter is in Besançon, headquarters of the French company SilMach, around thirty employees and a production capacity of several hundred thousand watch movements per year. For the moment, the program has not yet gone beyond the launch phase, with several possible sequels: a new brand, a movement factory or a technological development platform. Maybe all of this at the same time.
The hottest news comes close to the first option: the birth of a watch brand. This Thursday, December 5, Pierre-François Louvigné, co-director of SilMach, will present the first real creation, produced in collaboration with Alain Silberstein under the name The Time Changer. This name alone will make watch enthusiasts’ violins vibrate. Alain Silberstein presents himself as a “watchmaker architect”, born in Paris, established in Besançon. He had his heyday in the 1990s and until 2012, annus horribilis when his company fell into bankruptcy. His style is inimitable, full of humor and formal games often linked to the Bauhaus spirit. He has returned to the watchmaking forefront in recent years through a series of resounding collaborations, with MB & F, RJ, Louis Erard, Utinam, Bell & Ross… and SilMach.
