The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is the latest 2D opus of the famous franchise even if we tend to consider it as a separate episode, if only because for the first time, Zelda is the heroine and this time, it is Link that must be saved!
A change which is not simply an inversion of the usual codes since by making Zelda, the playable character of the game, the entire gameplay of the title has been modified.
No more sword fights (or almost) Zelda does not fight directly in Echoes of Wisdom but use the magic of echoes which allows you to reproduce objects and enemies to get out of all situations.
In an interview given to Washington Post, Eiji Aonuma explained that the idea behind the game was to reward players’ ingenuity by allowing them to play the way they wanted without imposing anything on them and letting them happen”to their own conclusion“.
An innovative concept that has not been found directly. Indeed, in the same interview, Eiji Aonuma reveals that basically the project was a sort of The Legend of Zelda Maker which would have allowed players to create their own episode of the Legend in the way of Super Mario Maker !

“Echoes” was originally planned as a project similar to “Super Mario Maker,” allowing players to create their own versions of the game.
Aonuma played early versions of the “Zelda Maker” concept and realized that it was fun enough to create an original story around the concept.
So we don’t know if The Legend of Zelda Maker was totally abandoned but in all cases, it allowed The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom to exist.
This further confirms that Nintendo worked well on a The Legend of Zelda Maker and, honestly, we hope that one day the game will exist.
