BEIJING, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) — As Black Friday approaches, which falls on Nov. 29 this year, major cross-border e-commerce platforms in China are launching various types of promotions to attract overseas consumers, strongly demonstrating that cross-border e-commerce in China is reaching its peak of deliveries.

Born in the United States, Black Friday takes place on the Friday after the Thanksgiving holiday and marks the start of the end-of-year holiday shopping period. Over the years, it has spread outside the American continent and gained popularity in other countries around the world.

As one of the most anticipated shopping events of the year, Black Friday has gradually transformed into Black Week, or even Black Month.

According to reports from China Securities Journal, the TikTok Shop platform kicked off its promotions for the Black Friday shopping season on November 14 with online previews in different countries. For example, TikTok Shop’s US site offers consumers deep discounts on select products spanning a wide range of categories, including cosmetics, fashion products, as well as electronics.

On SHEIN, Chinese online fashion retailer for adults and children, you can also find early offers for Black Friday. Shein is opening its European and American warehouses free of charge to sellers, to help them more efficiently carry out local storage in the overseas market and improve delivery efficiency, a China Securities Journal report said.

Since November, Alibaba Group’s AliExpress has been deploying huge billboards at popular subway stations or landmarks in the United Kingdom, the Republic of Korea, Spain and other countries, to spark a buying frenzy during the Black Friday shopping period. According to data, AliExpress recently rose to first place in the list of shopping app downloads in the United Kingdom, noted China Securities Journal.

Compared to previous years, promotions on online platforms will last longer this year. At the Nansha Free Trade Zone in Guangzhou, southern Guangdong province, packaged parcels wait to be sent to Europe and the United States. According to a logistics manager, several hundred additional staff members are being mobilized to cope with the peak in deliveries.

Undoubtedly, Black Friday will significantly boost cross-border e-commerce exports.

According to official data, China’s cross-border e-commerce import and export volume reached 1.88 trillion yuan in the first three quarters of 2024, an increase of 11.5 percent year-on-year.
