The Raspberry Pi Pico 2, launched last summer, will now be available in a wireless variant and will likely cost less than ten euros.
The Pico 2 W will have 2.4 GHz wifi (802.11n) and Bluetooth 5.2. Additionally, the device will have the same specifications as the previously released Pico 2. The wireless connectivity modem comes from Infineon. Formally, they will have a different model name. The Pico 2 (without connectivity) will be called the RP2040, and the Pico 2 W (with Bluetooth and wifi) will be called the RP2350.
The Rasberry Pi Pico 2 W, like the first Pico, will be a microcontroller with limited speed and computing power. It will therefore not be a device that you can use as a full-fledged computer, but a device suitable for controlling screens or IoT equipment, both for leisure projects and in professional environments. .
The microcontroller will therefore also be much more affordable than the classic Raspberry Pi. There is no official price for the Pico 2 W in Europe yet, but the guide price in the United States is $7. The Pico 2 (without wifi and Bluetooth) currently costs 5.95 euros, while the new version will undoubtedly cost a few euros more, while probably still remaining under the ten euro mark.
