Recent rumors suggest that the Google Pixel Tablet 2 is on the horizon, but there might not be a successor after that. A new report from Android Headlines suggests that the company has discontinued the lineup. Citing “multiple industry sources close to the project,” this report claims the company has canceled its Pixel Tablet 3 efforts.
Google apparently made this decision last week, and apparently reassigned people working on the Pixel Tablet 3 to other projects. Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time the company has tried to discontinue its Android tablet line.
In 2019, the company announced its withdrawal from the tablet market by stopping production of the Pixel tablet from the tablet market by stopping production of two devices, before returning to the market with the Pixel tablet in 2023. The device The second generation is still being rumored for next year, and it’s possible that Google is considering a new strategy for its larger devices.
For example, the company could consider focusing more on the foldable line. The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold was well received, and in its unfolded state it’s more of a mini-tablet than a phone. Its Pixel Tablet line, on the other hand, lacks the integration of many tablet-specific features that competitors like Apple offer (current M2 iPad Air base. $499 at Amazon). All of this suggests that the company was never all-in on this series.
But if Google does announce its withdrawal from the market for the second time, there is no guarantee that it will not return to the forefront. This will probably depend on the quality of the Pixel Tablet 2 and its sales.
