Sony focuses on compactness, customization and optimal support with its LinkBuds Fit. High-performance and comfortable, these headphones will appeal to active users, but their high price could discourage some.
Sony, a pioneer among the pioneers of wireless headphones, is trying to stand out in a sea of competition. It flirts with the limits of design and technology by offering new LinkBuds, called Fit in 2024. Compact, elegant and lightweight, these headphones are aimed at users looking for discreet but high-performance headphones. Their neat looking case slips easily into a pocket, and their soft silicone design (see photo below) is designed to adapt perfectly to the shape of the ear, offering excellent support, ideal for sporting activities.
Looks matter!
Comfort and customization are at the heart of Sony’s proposition with these LinkBuds Fit. The user can choose from several silicone tips for a precise fit and prolonged comfort. In addition, Sony offers a range of accessories, including case covers, available in various colors, allowing you to further personalize the appearance of its headphones. This modular approach is a first for Sony and shows their desire to offer a unique user experience. However, you will have to go back to the checkout and spend between €10 and €20 to customize headphones or cases.
Performance worthy of Sony
In terms of audio performance, the LinkBuds Fit keep their promise: the sound is precise and balanced, ideal for appreciating every detail in both music and video. They also include an automatic noise cancellation mode that adjusts to the environment, offering appreciable immersion even if it remains a notch below the best models on the market. For calls, Sony has included its technology Precise Voice Pickupwhich guarantees good voice clarity even in noisy environments. I tried it and it works well, but it’s hard to say that it works much better than the competition, because all the brands put forward the same arguments.
On the technical side, the LinkBuds Fit are equipped with Sony’s V2 processor, known for its noise reduction performance, and the Dynamic Driver X, a speaker specially designed for faithful sound reproduction. The headphones also support High-Resolution Audio Wireless, a guarantee of quality on paper. The feeling is clear: we are at the high end, the sound is rich and detailed. Sony includes some features to improve the daily experience: voice control, multipoint connection, Auto Switch function to automatically switch from the earphone to the LinkBuds Speaker (sold separately…), and compatibility with applications like Spotify Tap. In summary, the Likbuds Fit are efficient and full of more or less new, more or less useful features…
Conclusion: a price that could cool
However, this quality and customization comes at a cost. Displayed at 199€the LinkBuds Fit are in a high price range, while the trend is downward: many competitors offer more accessible alternatives (for products that are a little less complete and efficient). If Sony relies on the loyalty of its users and the brand experience, the market for wireless headphones remains competitive, with models starting at 50€ offering completely respectable experiences. The LinkBuds Fit are therefore aimed at a demanding audience, ready to invest for a tailor-made experience and the sound quality signed by Sony.
