AirTags 2 in 2025!
In his last newsletterMark Gurman de Bloomberg est formula : the second generation of AirTag – its little code name B589
– will be launched towards the middle of next year
. For now, Apple is reportedly carrying out various manufacturing tests with subcontractors in Asia.
– 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air with an M4 chip (J613 and J615)
– iPhone SE updated
– iPad Air 11-inch and 13-inch refreshed (J607 and J637)
– New Magic Keyboards for the updated iPad Air line (R307 and R308)
– An improved AirTag (B589).
What to expect from AirTags 2?
The design will remain quite similar, but Apple would however propose three improvements: greater range, better chip and enhanced privacy. This last point undoubtedly refers to the numerous misuse of the beacon for the purposes of harassment or vehicle theft. The challenge for Cupertino here is to reconcile the primary purpose of AirTags (finding a lost or stolen object) and to avoid any overflow/intrusion into private life.
For the rest, this new model would benefit notable improvements in tracking and geolocation capabilities. It should have the chip 2nd generation UWBwhich debuted in the iPhone 15 and offers even more precise tracking capable of locating a compatible device 3 times further away than before (around 60 meters).
For his part, Ming-Chi Kuo also looked into the issue last year! For him, production of the AirTag 2 had been postponed from the fourth quarter of 2024 to 2025 (without further details).
But he seemed sure of one thing :l'AirTag 2 would be part of a new ecosystem built around the Vision Prothe latter serving as a nerve center and integrating other satellite devices. Thus, the AirTag's Ultra Wideband chip could be used to relay position information to the Vision Pro to a certain extent.
Thieves will hate this feature
Last week, Apple revealed some details on a new AirTags function. Locate already allows users to share their articles with people they trust, so they can follow them too.
In beta 2 of iOS 18.2, theThe Locate application has a new option to share the location of an object with a trusted person, in order to find it as quickly as possible. This option will soon be available to all users as a free software update starting with iPhone X.
