Samsung’s first smart glasses won’t be what you think

According to information from Korean media, Samsung is preparing glasses for 2025, in the same style as the Meta Ray-Ban, with a camera, but without a screen.

At the beginning of 2023, on the occasion of the presentation of the Galaxy S23, Samsung announced that it was working on “ a new XR experience », or extended reality. Since then, there has been no news of what appeared to be an augmented reality headset, developed in partnership with Google.

Finally, new information was published this Saturday in the Korean economic media Maeil Business Newspaper. The opportunity to learn more about this augmented reality product which ultimately would have more to do with Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses.

Indeed, according to information from the Korean media, Samsung is indeed preparing to launch, during the third quarter of 2025, a device to be worn on the head. However, it would not be an augmented reality headset, but simply connected glasses.

Samsung’s glasses would be quite similar to those of Meta with a Qualcomm AR1 processor, an NXP co-processor, a 155 mAh battery and a 12 million pixel Sony IMX681 photo sensor.

Glasses without screen, but with integrated camera

There is no trace here of any screen or prism allowing content to be viewed. The glasses would in fact be designed to recognize elements around you, gestures or QR Codes. Samsung could also integrate speakers, like what Meta offers on its own glasses, to listen to music or chat with generative AI.

According to information obtained by Maeil Business NewspaperSamsung has reportedly decided to produce 500,000 copies of its glasses. These could be the subject of a first teaser during the announcement of the Galaxy S25 next January, before a launch during the summer. It is in fact this calendar that was adopted this year for its first connected ring, the Galaxy Ring.
