A powerful engine and controlled assistance

The Decathlon Riverside 100 E is an electrically assisted all-road bike that works with a 250-watt rear hub motor, which provides progressive assistance thanks to its 24 magnets and a cadence sensor. You can choose from four assistance modes, ranging from a range of 70 km in Eco mode up to 40 km in Boost mode to tackle more demanding elevations. With its torque of 42 Nm, climbs are much easier to climb.

However, the total weight of the bike, between 19.5 kg and 22.4 kg depending on the size (S, M or L) and the presence of the battery, or not, is quite significant for a VTC and can become a disadvantage in certain situations. In addition, the autonomy in Boost mode, although effective for short distances, remains insufficient for long outings, making this model more suitable for short to medium distance daily trips.

Good driving comfort and very practical equipment

The Riverside 100 E offers good comfort, which is important when cycling for a long time. This is partly thanks to its suspension fork, the GEL trekking saddle and its ergonomic BTWIN handles. Its low frame makes it easier to step over, while the 28″ puncture-proof tires allow you to ride on asphalt as well as on slightly rougher terrain. Mechanical disc brakes provide reliable and progressive braking in all circumstances, for smooth driving.

One small point, however: even if comfort is assured, the six-speed transmission can show its limits on particularly steep courses. Integrated accessories, such as LED headlights and options to add mudguards or luggage racks, are a real plus. It’s still a good investment despite everything, especially if it’s your first electric bike.
