Amazon Prime Video is experimenting with X-Ray Recaps, a new GenAI feature designed to offer instant episode summaries, without spoilers. It aims to help subscribers resume their series without difficulty.
Amazon Prime Video is launching a new recap feature, powered by generative AI, called X-Ray Recaps. The objective is to help subscribers easily catch up on the series they follow. The service, currently in beta, automatically generates concise summaries of episodes, entire seasons or specific segments of episodes for subscribers who have taken a break or returned to a series after a period of time. Rolling out first on Fire TV in the US, X-Ray Recaps is expected to expand to other devices by the end of the year.
X-Ray Recaps is powered by Amazon Bedrock, the Amazon Web Services (AWS) AI platform dedicated to the development and deployment of generative models. Combined with custom AI models using Amazon SageMaker, this technology analyzes video segments, including subtitles and dialogue, to produce brief but detailed descriptions of key moments, characters and locations .
Unlike general summaries available online, X-Ray Recaps is limited to events seen by the viewer, in order to avoid spoilers. X-Ray Recaps stands out for its ability to generate real-time summaries based on the viewer’s individual progress through the program. Amazon presents this feature as an alternative to rewinding the episode or searching for a summary online.
