Will Samsung release a cheaper folding machine? So far, Samsung hasn’t seemed interested. Throughout 2024, the rumor of a second smartphone from the Korean in book format caused a lot of noise, with some seeing it cheaper, others more expensive. This resulted in the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, an even more expensive version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6, although it sold for almost 2,000 euros.
A Korean blogger unknown to the battalion (you must therefore take the following information with a grain of salt) published a post which revives this idea of a cheaper folding. But this time, it concerns the clamshell format.
A simultaneous release with the Z Flip 7?
According to this post, 2025 would see the birth of a Galaxy Z Flip FE or even a Z Flip FE if Samsung gets rid of the Galaxy prefix in front of the names of its high-end smartphones.
The blogger adds that a release date has not yet been set, but that it could be a simultaneous release with the Galaxy Z Flip 7. If this were the case, it would be surprising, to say the least. from Samsung. The Korean firm has a habit of releasing its “FE” products (for Fan Edition) a few months after the base product, in order to give both a chance to exist.
What to expect from a Galaxy Z Flip FE?
If we don’t know anything about this model yet, it is possible to imagine the directions that Samsung could take with a Z Flip FE. Indeed, the brand has already released three Galaxy S FE in the past. It is also possible to rely on its competitors such as Motorola, which has been releasing a flip-format smartphone for several years that is less expensive than its very premium Razr 50 Ultra.
If we base ourselves on the Galaxy S FE, Samsung could release a model with a less powerful SoC (or processor), for example. The Seoul firm could work a little less on the finishes, or use less efficient photo sensors, for example.
Motorola chose another path. If the Razr 50 does integrate an external screen, one of the specificities of this format, it is smaller than on the Ultra model, an intelligent way of segmenting the range.
