Being one of the greatest directors in the world sure doesn’t leave a lot of free time. However, Spielberg loves this video game saga, the next episode of which is coming soon.

Steven Spielberg has a special history with Call of Duty. Believe it or not, but we almost owe the birth of the famous FPS to him… We told you this story a few months ago, in this article, but to keep it short: it was the director who launched the idea of what Medal of Honor would becomeand the third episode of the franchise (Allied Landing) will be developed by a studio called 2015 Inc (which Spielberg acquired on the advice of Id Software, fathers of Doom). The title is published by Electronic Arts, but 2015 Inc will not be satisfied for long with the contract which unites them with the publisher American. A few key members will leave the team to create Infinity Ward, the famous team behind Call of Duty.

The passion is still there

And despite the years, Spielberg still loves this first-person shooter. “He plays video games, he’s a big PC player and that’s also a bit of what we have in common,” says Max Spielberg, son of the director (who himself works in the video game). “He asks me, ‘What new Call of Duty should I play?’ Send me a list of the 5 best shooting games (…) we can play them when you come home.” A rather touching testimony: Steven Spielberg is now 77 years old and his son is approaching forty.

Soon a new favorite game?

Still in the same interview, Max Spielberg specifies that his father loves “story games” in general and that he always tries to get him to play Uncharted, the action-adventure games from Naughty Dog. “It’s like Indiana Jones, you’ll like it,” he justifies. For the moment, the filmmaker has always resigned himself to it : he is not very comfortable with a controller, he prefers the keyboard-mouse combo. Perhaps the arrival of Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle, expected on December 9 on PC and Xbox Series (then in 2025 on PS5) will make him change his mind… After all, it’s Steven Spielberg and George Lucas who created the famous treasure hunter.
