Here’s Why You Should Take an Afternoon Nap

Nap fanatics will be happy to know that their afternoon guilty pleasure is not a waste of time!

On the contrary, researchers from University College London and the University of the Republic in Montevideo, Uruguay, found that short naps promote good brain health and help combat cerebral atrophy (a shrinking of the brain). ).

“We found a link between regular daytime naps and larger brain volume, which may suggest that taking regular naps provides protection against neurodegeneration,” the scientists say.

The larger our brain volume, the better our cognitive abilities, such as attention and memory. According to researchers, the brain shrinks by 0.2% per year after the age of 35 and by 0.5% per year after the age of 60.

The brains of nap enthusiasts would be 15 cm larger3which is equivalent to delaying aging by three to six years. And there’s no need to spend the afternoon in bed: a 15-minute nap is enough! However, it is best not to exceed 30 minutes. So, off to bed!
