Google Wallet was previously missing from the Quick Settings (these icons located above your notifications) on Samsung smartphones. But after Google announced in August 2024 the integration of the shortcut to its service within Galaxy mobiles thanks to its latest version of Google Play services, Wallet is gradually making its entry into their Quick Settingsas noted 9to5 Google.
If Google Wallet was until now available on Galaxy smartphones – the app is in the Google Play catalog, it was not highlighted there by Samsung, and for good reason: the service competes with its in-house tool, Samsung Wallet , which is of course pre-installed on its smartphones. As of the current deployment, it will therefore be possible to benefit, on any terminal of the brand, from a shortcut allowing access to the different functionalities of this online wallet. Given Samsung’s status in the phone market, this should help increase Google Wallet’s popularity.
A digital wallet with multiple options
Remember that Google Wallet does not just accommodate one or more dematerialized payment cards, whether standard bank cards or cards dedicated to restaurant vouchers. The app can store various items, such as train tickets, boarding passes, various event access tickets, loyalty cards or even transport passes. It should also be noted that Google Wallet is available on Android smartphones from version 9 of the OS and on connected watches running Wear OS 2.0 at least: don’t forget to download the app from the Play Store if this is not already done, Samsung does not include it in the pack of Google apps preinstalled on its devices.
