Where can I follow live the departure of the rescue capsule that will repatriate the two “castaways” from the ISS?

It’s a mission that has the feel of a rescue mission. On September 28, SpaceX’s Crew 9 mission will blast off to the International Space Station (ISS), with just two astronauts on board. When it returns, the capsule will also serve as a “rescue pod” for the other two astronauts stuck on the ISS.

SpaceX’s Crew 9 mission has been rescheduled. The Falcon 9 rocket flight has been pushed back two days due to unfavorable weather conditions near the Kennedy Space Center. Everyone is ready for the big day: the dress rehearsal has been completed and the static engine burn has been completed without a hitch.

SpaceX Crew 9 Mission in Brief

  • What ? A SpaceX mission that will send a crew to the ISS;
  • When ? Saturday, September 28, at 7:17 p.m. ( time);
  • Or ? At the Kennedy Space Center (Florida);
  • What will we see? The launch of the launcher in the USA, the sending of the capsule into orbit for a period of five days, a spacewalk and the return to Earth.

How to watch the Falcon 9 rocket take off?

NASA and SpaceX will provide live coverage of the flight. Video insert will be added as soon as it becomes available.

What is SpaceX trying to accomplish?

The goal is to propel a manned Crew Dragon capsule into space and dock it with the ISS, which is 400 km above Earth. For once, the crew will consist of only two people: American Nick Hague and Russian Alexander Gorbunov. The other two seats are left vacant.

It’s no surprise: the Crew Dragon capsule is also supposed to serve as a “rescue capsule” for Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams, the two American astronauts who unwittingly became “castaways” in space. In fact, they took part in the Boe-CFT mission, with Boeing’s Starliner capsule, but things went wrong.

Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams were originally supposed to stay on the ISS for just a week. In the end, they won’t be returning to Earth for a little less than four months. The Starliner capsule, however, finally managed to return to Earth, despite ongoing concerns about its reliability. A victory for Boeing, despite the absence of the crew on the return.

When does the Falcon 9 rocket take off?

The US space agency plans to launch the Falcon 9 rocket on September 28 at 7:17 p.m. (Paris time). The mission was originally scheduled to launch on the 26th, but the US space agency had to take into account a tropical cyclone that was too close to the Gulf of Mexico and the coast of Florida.
