Forget the USB cables and transfers by email! Thanks to a free Google application, you can easily and quickly exchange files between your smartphone and a PC without plug any wire.

Nowadays, smartphones and computers have become tools as essential as they are complementary to daily. Whether in the context of work or leisure, it is common to start a task or an activity on one and to continue it on the other. Thus, making these different devices in a fluid way, including quickly exchanging files between them, has become a necessity for many users.

In the Apple world, the Airdrop function fulfills this role, and in the Windows and Android universe, important progress has been made in recent years. Microsoft has enriched its connected mobile application a lot, which allows you to use your smartphone directly on the screen of your PC, and your service mobile devices, thanks to which you can now access the content of your phone from the Windows file explorer .

But next to Microsoft’s solutions, there is also another very easy to use method to transfer content from an Android phone to a Windows PC: the Quick Share application (literally, fast sharing in French). Developed by Google, free and installed basic on all smartphones operating on Android 6 or higher, this file sharing function between devices shines by its simplicity and its speed of use.

To take advantage of it, you must first download Quick Share from the official Android website, then install it by double-clicking on the file QuickShareSetup.exe So recovered. At the first opening, the Quick Share application offers to connect to its Google account, in order to facilitate file sharing with its contacts and devices, but this connection is not compulsory.

For the content exchange to work, the Bluetooth must be activated on the PC as on the Android device, and the two must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. In addition, the visibility of each device must be defined, for allow them to detect each other. By default and by safety measure, it is likely that this parameter will be set to Personwhich prevents file reception.

You can change the visibility of the PC directly from the main screen of Quick Share, by clicking on Hidden device To show a list of options. If you are not connected to your Google account, you can only select Receive from everyone. Otherwise, you can also choose between Receive contacts et Receive your devices.

You will also need to check the visibility of your Android device. To do this, touch the top of your screen and slide your fingers down to reveal the settings panel, then press on Quick Share. As on PC, you can choose between several visibility modes (your devices, contacts or everyone). And on PC as on smartphone, the “everyone” mode will automatically deactivate after ten minutes, for safety.

Once these settings are done, you can easily transfer documents, photos, videos, folders or any type of content from your PC to your smartphone, or vice versa. To send files from the PC, make the Simple Slide from the Windows Explorer to the Quick Share window, or click the button Select in the latter. And to transfer content from your Android device, select it on your screen, then touch the option Share and then the option Quick Share.

In one direction as in the other, you will have to manually validate any transmission of files on the device that receives them. It is a safety mechanism that aims to avoid receiving unlined or malicious content. Quick Share is therefore a good alternative to Microsoft solutions to share files between its Android and Windows devices. Although it offers more limited functions than the connected mobile application, it is easier to use and allows content exchange without going through its Microsoft account.
