The choice of toilet paper has direct repercussions on skin health. The use of wet towels is not recommended. “People sensitive to perfumes and preservatives are numerous and allergies are increasing. It usually starts with simple redness that can lead to itching, ”explains the German news site T-online Uta Schlossberger, dermatologist.
In case of persistent irritation or allergic reactions, painful lesions or vesicles may appear. The expert strongly advises against the use of humid hygienic paper containing additives, especially in the event of recurring problems such as hemorrhoids. “This concerns a fairly large number of people. Hemorrhoids are among the most frequent pathologies in the Western world, ”she says.
Building on “Special Sensitive Skin” toilet paper does not guarantee that the product is free from potentially irritating preservatives. And for good reason, “the mention” special sensitive skin “is not subject to any legal obligation prohibiting manufacturers from adding certain ingredients”, explains the dermatologist.
The specialist advises to use completely ordinary hygienic paper, without additives. “The best way to clean the private parts is to use clear water, ideally lukewarm,” she says. Whatever the paper used, it is essential to carry out a smooth cleaning. “Rating and exerting pressure unnecessarily causes irritation. It is absolutely necessary to avoid this, ”she explains.
-The sweetest method is to use clear water: “Everything you want to get rid of in this area washes in the water”. According to her, lukewarm water cleanses in depth and preserves the anus. In the absence of a bidet, it is possible to put a little water on the toilet paper. To prevent it from tearing, several thicknesses must be used.
A large number of people, wrongly, think of UTA Schlossberger, that soap or special cosmetic products allow better hygiene. The dermatologist wishes to warn against a particular product: “Above all, it should not be used, because it only puts a film on the skin, without entering it. The anal zone thus remains humid permanently, which risks promoting, even worsening, itching and inflammation, ”she says.
The choice of underwear also has repercussions. Synthetic materials and thongs tend to make skin more sensitive due to humidity formation. “Cotton underwear are the best. They better absorb humidity and prevent itching, irritation and lesions, ”concludes the expert.
