I transformed my TV into an Xbox for less than 100 euros and here is the verdict

It’s been almost a month since the end of year celebrations ended and the month of January never ends. The opportunity for me to look back on one of the gifts I gave myself for the period: a Fire TV Stick 4K and a subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. After a week of vacation and a month of using it fully, I am delighted with the experience. Here’s what I think about it.

To start, I’ll let you in on a secret: this is my first time entering the Xbox ecosystem. At 30, better late than never.

My Samsung television from 2016 does not have TizenOS, and therefore not the Xbox application. However, it is this app that allows you to enjoy cloud gaming via Game Pass. This is why acquiring an HDMI TV key was more than beneficial. Indeed, recently, Amazon Fire Sticks support the Xbox application, as do LG TVs now.

Installation is very simple. Simply download the Fire TV app on your smartphone to set up the key, and log in to your Xbox account to link the two. To go even faster, know that Amazon offers Game Pass subscriptions.

Finally, you will need to install the Xbox application on your TV stick. The last step is to connect your controller, following the steps indicated on this same app.

Once all these elements have been completed, that’s it: you can play.

Use of Game Pass as a homebody

If you are an avid reader of Frandroidyou are aware that we are quite rave about the Game Pass and its different offers. One of the strengths of the subscription is its nomadic use thanks to cloud gaming, allowing you to play at home, on the TV, in transport, on your smartphone (with stable 5G) then in another location from your PC For example.

My personal consumption of Game Pass is done exclusively from the television, as if it were a standard home console. The practical side is that I can take it everywhere with me, especially on vacation, since all I need is the Fire Stick, the Xbox controller and efficient Wi-Fi. We also recommend a Wi-Fi 6 compatible box at least for a better connection.

With Fiber, the broadcast of each of the games is done without any problem, even if some lags are sometimes noted, especially when obtaining an in-game trophy. In short, recently, I can boast of having added the Xbox to my gaming routine« .

The best investment in recent years

Lies of P, Indiana Jones, Baldur’s Gate…The Game Pass catalog is long enough to keep you busy. At 17.99 euros per month for the Ultimate plan, and if you have time to devote to it, it is undoubtedly the best offer to finish your list of pending games. The only problem is that the games in the catalog do not belong to you, even if it is renewed regularly.

Take into account that if you are fond of competitive games, especially FPS, this solution is not yet suitable as the responsiveness is not there. On the other hand, for slightly quieter games, even Souls-likethe combination does the trick.

In terms of accounting, the Fire Stick at 70 euros, coupled with the controller at 50 euros, make the investment more profitable than a console at 300 euros. Be careful though, this solution is primarily aimed at a more forgiving audience of players looking for a turnkey solution for gaming. Which confirms a trend at Microsoft: everything can be an Xbox.
