OM are always on the lookout for an opportunity in the offensive sector in order to compensate for a potential departure of Elye Wahi to Frankfurt. But the hope of seeing an attacker land at 30 million euros is slim.
For several days, Olympique de Marseille has been negotiating with Eintracht Frankfurt for the transfer of its striker Elye Wahi. An agreement seemed almost reached between the two clubs for around 25 million euros but the German press threw a huge chill on Wednesday evening by revealing that Frankfurt had not offered more than 20 million euros, an offer rejected by the club Olympian. The discussions are therefore on hold for the moment because according to Sky Sports, the current 3rd in the Bundesliga has no intention of going higher.
OM, however, remains confident of finding an agreement with the German club and is therefore prospecting in parallel to find the number nine who will replace Elye Wahi. The names of Santiago Gimenez (Feyenoord), Evan Ferguson (Brighton) and Brian Brobbey (Ajax Amsterdam) were mentioned. Common points between these three attackers, they are young and cost between 20 and 30 million euros. The second reason seems prohibitive for a transfer this winter if we rely on the information published by L'Equipe in today's edition. And for good reason, the national daily reveals that “OM should not go for this kind of deal” in the middle of January.
-OM will not break the bank this winter
In the event of the departure of Elye Wahi, there remain two possibilities: a loan such as Mathys Tel or Marcus Rashford, even if these two files are complex… or a status quo by choosing to bet on Neal Maupay, Robinio Vaz , Faris Moumbagna and Jonathan Rowe to end the season hoping to qualify for the Champions League, before going after a very high caliber striker next summer. Frank McCourt and Pablo Longoria in any case do not intend to take too big a risk during the season by spending another 20 to 30 million euros for Elye Wahi's successor. Unless there are any big surprises, the Gimenez or even Ferguson tracks, very sexy on paper, can therefore be stored at the bottom of a drawer.
